News - Warrenbri Hope Raises $48,000 for Cancer

David Brettell

Australian Cancer Research Foundation CEO David Brettell addressed the crowd on the evening of Saturday 10th January 2009 with 'Hope for cancer and hope for cancer sufferers' in the opening of the night's auction program at the Conrad Jupiters Magic Millions 2009 Yearling Sale on the Gold Coast.

In the lead up to the sale, Brett Welsh has been training the adorable Warrenbri Stock Horse Stud colt, Warrenbri Hope showcasing him at the Australian Outback Spectacular and has become extremely fond of this magnificent young horse. When approached with the idea to auction an Australian Stock Horse to raise funds for the Cancer Research Foundation by Brett, Simon & Bridget Knight had no hesitation when making the decision to donate Warrenbri Hope in greatest respect to Simon's father, Peter Knight. Peter at only 61 passed away from cancer and his legacy lives on in Simon's life, Simon's family and the horses. It is a terrible way to lose someone dear to you and the Knight family feel this was an opportunity to help the future. Warrenbri Hope was named accordingly, 'belief in a positive outcome related to events and circumstances in one's life'.

It was an exciting time for everyone's individual efforts and as a team as the auction began. Nick Mouritius made the winning bid to acquire the Australian Stock Horse in the Charity auction at $48,000, a brilliant result for the Cancer Research Foundation.

It is expected that the Australian Outback Spectacular will still show Warrenbri Hope in some of their performances, enabling Brett to continue growing with this colt in training and uncovering more of Warrenbri Hope's natural ability.

Warrenbri Hope is out of Warrenbri April by Warrenbri Roman Oak and has an incredibly hopeful future ahead of him.
